A Blak comedy about life, love, and being more than “chopped liver”. CHOPPED LIVER spans 20 years and follows the stories of Lynne and Jim, two Koories from country Victoria and the way their lives are impacted by Hepatitis C. The two-person play shows that Hepatitis C doesn’t have to be a negative and life damaging experience and can be effectively treated

2017 VICTORIAN TOUR

CHOPPED LIVER will return revitalised in 2017 with content updated to communicate that a new cure is available in accordance with the Victorian Hepatitis C Strategy 2016-2020. The show continues to be relevant to Koorie audiences, especially at this exciting time of Direct Acting Antiviral availability to cure Hepatitis C in our community, with few side effects and 95% success rates.

We are currently seeking expressions of interest from community groups who would like to host a free performance during the tour period (10-21 July 2017).

In 2005, ILBIJERRI Theatre Company collaborated with the Victorian Department of Human Services, the Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation, and Hepatitis C Victoria to develop a play that would communicate Hepatitis C prevention and education messages to the Victorian Aboriginal community. The partnership grew in 2007, with support from Corrections Victoria and the Department of Justice, to extend the project to Victorian prisons.

Over four years 2006 – 2009, CHOPPED LIVER toured nationally and was seen by over eight thousand people in communities, schools & prisons. It remains a highlight to anyone that saw it, a well-loved show that tackles a serious disease with a serious dose of humour.

The show has been awarded an Indigenous Community Justice Award (for outstanding contribution towards improved social justice for the Koori Community in the Enforcement Initiative), and has also received the prestigious “Secretary’s Award” at the 2008 Victorian Public Healthcare Awards, for “keeping people well in the community”.
