ILBIJERRI WRITERS RESIDENCY

“We are moving to a period where you are going to see some of the most incredible black theatre in this country that you’ve ever, and never, yet seen” – The Age
The ILBIJERRI WRITERS RESIDENCY aims to create a year-long relationship with a select group of Indigenous writers to further new work.
The Residency consists of three week-long intensive workshops with a creative team of directors, dramaturges and performers, culminating in a reading of the work.
In telling our stories of what it means to be Indigenous in Australia today, our work possesses the power to reach out and remind audiences of every person’s need for family, history and heritage.
This project has been supported by the Perpetual Foundation, the Australian Government through the Ministry for the Arts, and La Mama.

REHEARSED READINGS
Jacob Boehme and Katie Beckett will be premiering their fresh new works in a rehearsed reading at La Mama.
This presentation is the culmination of the inaugural ILBIJERRI WRITERS RESIDENCY; a unique platform for emerging Indigenous writers to hone their craft and bring new works to life.
The writers participated in creative developments supported by a team of directors, dramaturges and performers. These readings are the first opportunity to witness Indigenous theatre’s newest voices.
