Tony McCartney


Tony McCartney has worked in Aboriginal Affairs for over 35 years in youth, housing, employment and health including senior executive and directorship roles in local regional and national Aboriginal organisations. Tony comes with considerable knowledge and experience in governance and advocacy and is a qualified trainer and facilitator with qualifications in management, community development and business governance.

During his time working in finance for the federal government, he helped analyse financial reports and work collaboratively with organisations funded by government to help improve their financial reporting systems. In other management roles, he has also negotiated funding and service agreements with local state and federal government departments. 

Tony has been mentored by senior accountants and has taken what he learned to work in financial programs in the not-for-profit sector and to teach introductory business courses in First Nations communities.

He has served as Treasurer on numerous boards of directors in the past including Victorian Aboriginal Health Service (budget $12M), Rumbalara Aboriginal Co-operative ($3.5M), Bubup Wiliam Early Learning Centre ($4M), St Francis Junior Football Club ($150,000), VACCHO ($3M), NACCHO ($2.5M) and Ilbijerri Theatre ($2M). Tony has been Treasurer of ILBIJERRI Theatre’s Board of Directors since August 2015.
